Went out on Crosseyes boat today straight north to around the 31/11. We had good marks so we dropped anchor and started to fish. Didn't seem like we were holding very still, mostly side to side with a little drag to it. Dave let more line out and every thing looked better until we were sliding some. Then it was Bill's turn to let more line out and then we were hooked pretty good with some side to side sway. I think most of us added an other seemed like a pound of lead to hit the bottom. I used a Ole Pete's perch spoon on the end of a crappie rig. It wasn't up and down but close to it and big did I say BIG perch, best of the year so far. The catch netted a little over 4+ lbs per person. We got out around 9 and was done around 11:30, what a great day !!!!

Went out of Lorain about 5pm just past the breakwall. Got 48, most of them the biggest of the year, 3 throw backs. Ran out of daylight. Weighed in at 22.5 pounds at the fish cleaners. I was going to winterize the boat tomorrow, but I can't pass up perch this big. Hopefully we'll get our limit and still have time to put the boat away for the year. I hate doing that in sleet and snow! Usually when I'm done for the year, the forecast changes and we get two or three more nice weekends!

Don't quit now Freebie they're just getting started. Best Perch I have had for a while, we should be getting this big all of the time. It wasn't that light bite stuff either, just about yank it out of your hand at times.

17.5' 1964 Lonestar. Old old boat but it gets me out perching. It didn't look bad when I drove by the lake closer in but it was already 5pm. Hope to get out this weekend.

Went out again today (22nd), just past the breakwall, 32-33 fow. 2 man limit of real nice fish, bigger than yesterday. Hot for a while, then nothing, then hot again. My passenger pulled up a 23" steelhead! Didn't put the boat away, It'll probably snow this weekend.
seedpws - I've got a wide aluminum 16.5 SeaNymph. Boat's not a problem, but anchoring is sometimes...

Anchoring should never be a problem with the proper anchor, chain and length of rope. You need a slip ring style anchor with about 8' of good chain and at least three times the depth of water for the amount of line out. You should be able to get hooked up. Most people don't put enough line out or try not to use any chain, both are a must.
Here is my anchor and a shot of my chain, and always anchor off of the bow for safety!!!

I also have a problem anchoring and it always makes me mad. I have 125 feet of line. I got a chain. I got the 8# anchor that has the O slip ring on it and chain. Not sure but it grabs then lets go. I end up drifting for 20 minutes until it catches. Makes it hard when in a pack of boats. I am thinking about getting a new anchor that has longer spikes. This is the shorter one. Think that would help?

went out yesterday. started in 32' off the vermilion breakwall. got nothing. moved nw into 40' and it was just like saturday night. finally had to give up trying to fish two poles. for a while i would hook one and let it be and then set the next pole and reel in the other one. got some nice doubleheaders. most were very nice perch. had to keep a couple of smaller ones that coughed up a lung. then tried for walleye and that's a whole different story. lots of marks from 43' into 16'. no takers

Speedpws, look at the pictures of my set up. Buy that kind of anchor and a good heavy chain and you won't have any problems. The chain weights the arm of the anchor down so pointy parts bite in the bottom. If you want to spend some money they make a nice aluminum one that is called a Danforth Anchor. It is warrantied for like is a lot lighter and would look real good on my boat. That is what I wanted when I bought my boat but you see what they sold me.

DE- Is absolutly correct. I bought a Fortress FX-11 with a 5 foot chain and 250ft of anchor rope. The anchor is unbelievably light and the hook up is incredible. I've yet to break apart. Paying a little extra, and having solid hookups was well worth paying a little extra. I also think it's a saftey thing if you are fishing closer to walls or if you have engine failure.
