Went to Erie Outfitters to get some Ole Pete's jigging spoons. I read on this forum last year that they were great for perch. They told me the perch were really biting off of Lorain Light. I had only intended to launch my boat and see if it worked, but I got some minnows and went to give the perch a try. At the dock a guy pulling in told me they were biting this morning but had turned off around 10:00 AM (I launched about 12:30 PM)-- that's always how it is! After testing out the boat I fished for about 1.5 hours. Got 6 10"-11" perch and threw a few back. Got almost all on an orange Ole Pete's jigging spoon -- much more productive than my spreader on the other rod. No one else in the area seemed to be getting much. Then the NW wind started to increase and rain was coming so I went in. But the big perch are definitely in at Lorain Light!!! I could see the lure about 2 feet down.

By the way I tested my new Easy Troller trolling plate. It slowed my 21' 125HP Bayliner down from an idling speed of 3.2 mph to 1.8 mph. Can't wait to try it on the walleye. I used to have to zigzag, circle troll, or go against the wind and waves to get slow enough -- I never liked trolling socks.

I'll be going back soon for more perch when they are biting faster.

No one else out and some nice fish today. We left Hot Waters (can we still call it that?) about noon and fished on the east side of the outer wall. Quite a few 10-11" and a couple over that.
We've got plenty of perch now.....how about some stable weather to get the walleyes going?

I went yesterday morning (May 15) a couple miles north of Lorain harbor in the pack in 45' of water. Not a bite! No one else was doing much either. Only stayed a couple of hours. On my way in I saw 2 people get fish right outside of the harbor where ErieBoy75 was. Hardly any boats there either! Guess I'll try there next time, first.
