| hey thanks for the report, it helps us new guys! What is dragging meat mean? Also im guessing if you run a dipsey on #3 you need to go out farther then a #1 ? Im going to try trolling with dipseys for the first time this weekend i hope. Also what is the time to use spoons, worm harness, and little cranks??? Im a little off on what to use. thanks again dan |

Dan snoop around in archives here for dipsey info. 0 setting runs it straight down. the higher the #, the further to the side it runs. when you get good, you can run several per side, by adjusting the number & distance back and location of the rod to the others on the boat. (I only run one/side, if that tells you anything about my confidence in myself!) when we say 3 setting 100 back, the dipsey is set on #3 and we let out 100' of line. meat = worms, "dragging meat" means using crawler harnesses. We don't generally use worms on spoons or cranks, although in parts of the country, a worm IS used on the front hook on cranks. On spoons, a worm usually screws up the action of the lure. And I'm no expert. I'm just regurgitating facts picked up on this site and some personal experience. Oh yeah, make sure you adjust the release. Reeling in a 6# fish at 2mph isn't easy, but if you can't trip the dipsey you'll think you've got the new State record! Best of luck! ErieBoy75 |
