I am getting ready to hook up the front ele trolling motor on my boat and need some help. How do you hook up a 24 volt charging system. HOOKING UP THE CHARGER-THEN TWO BATTERIES-THEN TO THE TROLLING MOTOR.
And then after they are hooked up can I still hook up like my marine radio to one of the batteries?

Take a jumper and hook ONE of the positive posts from battery number one to to ONE of the negetive posts from battery number two of your two twelve volt batteries. You will then have a positive post of one battery and a negitive post of the other battery open. This is where you would hook the leads from your 24 volt charger and the leads of your 24 volt trolling motor.
As far as your marine radio and fish finders I would suggest they go to your starting battery to minimize interferance. If you are bound and determined to hook to you TM batteries just put it on a single battery, but again this is not reccomended.
Hope this helps

Mark,
This is a good diagram of what Reo is stating. You want to look at the 24 volt with two 12's.

I would hook the radio up to the wires/leads coming into the console. They are fed by the 12 volt cranking battery.

Mark,
Is your battery charger actually outputting a single bank at 24Vdc? Most marine on-board chargers have multiple 12Vdc banks. If you had a 3-bank charger you would hook up one bank to each battery. If one bank of the 3 banks has a lower amperage output , you would hook that bank up to the starting battery.
This link is to a Guest battery charger manual and shows diagrams of how to hook up to different configurations.

I thought the 24 volt charger was a little strange also. Not unheard of, but definitely not the norm.
bigmtman, you should heed redneck's advice and be sure to varify that. |

Mark,
Unless you've changed chargers, you have a two bank (12 volt each) 10 amp charger. Like the 2620 in Rednecks post. |

Seapro, nope have not changed the charger and I did log onto Dualpro charger web sight and they had a manual that I was able to print off. Thanks for the help guys.
Ok guys-it does hook up just like the #2620 system that rednek posted about,I see that it basically hooks up red to positive and black to negative just like any thing else does but how and where do you hook up the trolling motor wires at?Both wires from the trolling motor to one battery or does the positive wire go to one battery and the negative wire to the other battery? |

Mark,
There is a good illustration in my first post. Once you wire the one negative post to the positive post to make it a 24 volt system, you then wire your trolling motor to the remaining negative and positive posts. You will have one wire from the trolling motor going to a positive on one battery and a negative on the other battery. Call me if you need any help. |

| If you hook up any 12v electronics, hook up to the battery that has the negative connected to chassis (system) ground. Otherwise, if you accidentally touch the minus lead to anything metal, you could seriously melt some wires. |
