I have a Volvo Penta 4.3L V-6 with a cracked block. Can somebody tell me if I can replace the block with a standard GM 4.3L V-6 block.I was told that Volvo Penta's are GM motors. I am also the one with the broken trim tab. I'm Bischoff's brother in-law.Thanks guys.

| Call a dealer in the area. There has to be a Volvo Penta dealer in the area that could tell you if it would work or not. Try calling some marinas as well. They may be able to tell you. |

| Not sure how bad the crack is.Going to have to pull the motor to see.Yes,it pushed the left side freeze plug out.The right side was nearly pushed out.I'm not entirely sure that it's the block, could even be one of the heads. If you have ANY suggestions, please let me know.I'm cool with even hillbilly rigging.Thank's Dan. |

| i've repaired a few in my days. if the crack isnt inside it should be fixable. on one motor i drilled two little stop holes on both sides of the crack took and ground a v in the crack and soidered it! tour lucky to get 20 lbs of pressure in the motor and water pipes in your home are alot higher then that! but also with all the miracle epoxes out today that might work too! the stop holes are the key. call me too 440-724-8491 or emails good at work here |

Well, do you have water in your oil? The block can be fixed relatively easliy fo r an outer jacket freeze crack. They can be welded, brazed you name it. Dave |

| Sorry about the late response. I've been on vacation in Tennessee and I also have a bad knee from a dirtbike accident. My dad and I took the motor apart. Both heads are cracked. We're not sure if the block is cracked also or not. So we're not totally sure what to do at this point. I think my knee is almost healed enough to work on it some more. I still have a limp and may need surgery, but it's a lot better than it was.By the way, yes, it had lots of water in the crank case. Thanks for the response Dave. Any one have any suggestions? |

| With all that said I'd be looking into a replacement engine. Most Volvos are chevy marine engines. |

| Does anybody know where I can get a replacement engine? I can't afford to let a marine service do it. Maybe a boat junkyard or something? |

| Not unless you are going to use a chain saw and don't care about putting it back in!!! I have never owned an I O before but I do know the transom is not part of the motor or out drive. I'm sure it is all bolted in!! Dan will know for sure!! |

No need to cut the transom, the engine will come out.I would pick up the shop manual for that year Volvo and go from there. It's a good Idea to have the motor lined back up by a pro upon re-installation. Dave |
