Been MIA for a while. Found this on another site. Hope it isn't a problem posting it over here also. Is anyone from here fishing it?

LEWT Anglers Prepare for Seasons First Event

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) and Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) will hold their first event of 2008 Saturday April 5th at Fenwick Marina on Turtle Creek. The event has been sold out for over a month and a full field of anglers will take to the water Saturday morning in search of the winning bag of walleye.

“It has been a long winter and our anglers are ready to go fishing”, commented WBSA President Marc Hudson. “Right now the weather looks like it will be good on Saturday although prefishing might be a little tough during the week. There will be a lot of decisions to be made come tourney time and we will see Saturday afternoon who makes the right choices to pull out the win.”

The 2008 season is shaping up to be a great one. The first two events of the year are sold out with the Catawba event getting close to filling also. We have some great new sponsors coming on board with some amazing prizes to be given away through out the year and that starts with the South Shore Marine Early Bird Award that will be given to one of our early bird teams in a random drawing at the first event. The point structure has also been tweaked and should make for an exciting finish in the team of the year race.

“We are glad to have Starcraft Marine and Evinrude E-TEC back as title sponsors for the LEWT. We also have two dealerships as sponsors that carry the lines of our title sponsors in Cranberry Creek Marina and Vics Sports Center. 2008 is shaping up to be our best year yet and we want to thank the anglers and the sponsors for making this happen” added LEWT Tournament Director Matt Davis.

The WBSA is a Social based Club for fishermen and women that fish in the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its tributaries. Membership is open to all fisher people no matter what their location. Our goal is to present information in a manner that will help sustain and improve fishing in one of the greatest inland sport fisheries in the world. Scientific information, fishing techniques, locations and presentations will be presented at our monthly meetings by expert and knowledgeable speakers and tournament anglers in our group. These anglers are very open with techniques and methods and will help any member that is trying to learn new methods.

Here is the remaining schedule for the LEWT and spots remain for Catawba, Geneva and Lorain.
April 5th – Fenwick Marina
May 3rd – Lakevue Marina “Sharpnack Ford LEWT”
May 31st – Catawba State Park “Crown Battery LEWT”
June 28th – Geneva State Park “Migration Open”
August 2nd – Lorain “South Shore Marine Championship”

For more information about the LEWT you can visit www.wbsa.us Listed below are the 2008 LEWT sponsors: Starcraft Marine, Evinrude E-TEC(BRP), South Shore Marine, West Marine, Reef Runner Lures, Cranberry Creek Marina, Vics Sports Center, Sportsmans Outpost, Erie Outfitters, Ole Pete's Tackle, Yant Beef Jerky, Navionics, www.OhioGamefishing.com , Buckeye Rod Maker, Michigan Stinger Spoons, Sharpnack II Chevrolet, Jim’s Taxidermy, Sharpnack Ford, Cisco Fishing Systems, LPG Fishing Systems and Rich’s Hook Line and Sinker.

100+ views and no comments? Oh well. Guess I will give up on this site like it appears everyone else has.

Kgone and fishon what happened? Why no LEWT this year? Looked at the roster since no one replied to this and saw you all wasn't on there.

Here is the wrap up if anyone is interested.

Jig fishermen take top spots in the LEWT

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) and Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) held the Evinrude E TEC – Starcraft Marine first event of 2008 on Saturday April 5th at Fenwick Marina on Turtle Creek. The weather was great for the sold out event and the anglers were greeted in the morning with coffee and donuts from West Marine. Teams faced very muddy waters from wind and rain earlier in the week and a tough bite in general.

New comers to the LEWT Bryan Huff of Rossford and Brent Brophy of Milford, MI brought 3 fish to the scale for a total of 15.2 lbs. They made the decision with the warm day to run to the Maumee Bay and try to find some fish getting ready to go up the river to spawn. Catching a limit of 5 fish to finish second was the team of Scott Geitgey of Canton and Tim Calvert of Port Clinton. Their basket weighed 14.76 lbs. They went west from the launch site to Crane Creek and worked 4 foot of water to get a quick limit jigging. Both of the top teams caught their fish on the infamous Lake Erie purple hair jig. Finishing third with 3 fish weighing 11.74 was the team of Mike Zaborski of Sheffield Lake and Charlie Robinson of Perrysburg.

Huff and Brophy also collected some additional prizes and payouts in addition to the win. They were the first winners of the Starcraft Winners Contingency on the LEWT. They received $250 from Starcraft Marine for winning the event while fishing from a Starcraft boat. Greg Yarbrough from Starcraft was on hand and said “It was great to see Bryan and Brent bring home the win and we are proud to pay out the money to teams that are fishing out of our boats.” The $250 Winners Contingency from Starcraft will be available at every LEWT event this year and teams are eligible for an additional $250 if they purchased their boat from LEWT sponsors Cranberry Creek Marina or Vics Sports Center for a total of $500.

Huff and Brophy were happy with their win but the most excited person at the weigh in was Kathy North. Her and husband Rob won the drawing for the South Shore Marine Early Bird Award and a Furuno digital color fish finder. Steve Carlson presented the couple with their prize and commented “South Shore Marine is happy to support the LEWT and be the sponsor of the early bird award to give back to the teams that signed up early to fish the whole series.”

The final award for Huff and Brophy was the Cranberry Creek Marina Big Fish Award. They brought in a fish weighing 8.98 lbs to capture the $500 top prize in that category also. Finishing second in the race for big fish and securing $260 was the team of Shawn Ritchie of Spencer and John Wagner of Marion with a walleye weighing 8.32 lbs. They found their fish north of the islands trolling with just a few minutes left in the day.

There were a total of 43 fish brought to the scales weighing an average of 3.86 lbs. Teams were pretty well split half and half on jigging and trolling. A variety of lures were used with Reef Runners and Husky Jerks mentioned most often for the trollers and hair jigs exclusively for the jiggers.

Here is the remaining schedule for the LEWT and spots remain for Geneva and Lorain.
May 3rd – Lakevue Marina “Sharpnack Ford LEWT”
May 31st – Catawba State Park “Crown Battery LEWT”
June 28th – Geneva State Park “Migration Open”
August 2nd – Lorain “South Shore Marine Championship”

Well it is the eve of the second LEWT and I guess I am left to wonder as to why K Gone and fishon Frank are still not listed on the roster? After a good rookie year figured they would be back. Is it easier to be internet hero on MB's then going out and making it happen consistently? Maybe there is something else? I did notice neither were listed as WBSA members either. Does anyone know what the story is. Heard some rumors the last couple of weeks while hanging around the weigh ins and the bars in PC but not sure whether to beleive them or not as it could just be the long island ice teas talking. Come on guys what's going on? Sure there are more people out there wonderring the same thing.

Can't say I know the story behind the LEWT & WBSA, but I know that K_Gone finished in 9th place a couple weeks ago at the FLW in PC, fishing as a Pro. And, both are members of the North Coast Anglers, (K_gone is also the V.P.) I don't think either checks in here very often, but you can find them over at the NCA.

Do they make a Kielbasa colored Reef Runner??? Husky Jerk????

I also believe that K_gone is doing more on the professional end this season. He is fishing the michigan FLW league so maybe that has some conflicting dates. I'm not really sure about the other stuff.

Are you some kind of internet stalker or something? Why are you so worried about what kgone and fishon are up to? Kgone just took 9th in the FLW tourney against the best in the world if you didn't notice on top of there 2 top 5's and one other top 10 last year, I hardly would consider him a internet hero, that boy has put up and shown his skill over and over, I've never seen Kgone on this site is he even registered here? does anyone know? They are both on OGF so if your so concerned about them why don't you go find them over there.

Sorry for asking a question. Guess ya gotta watch what ya ask around here or maybe jsut who you ask it of? Am I to assume BED(big eye dave) is now the spokesperson for kevin and frank? Must have been important enough for ya to defend there honor to go ahead and register and all. Nice first post. So if you ask ??'s now you are a stalker? freaking crazy! Just seemed like they was talking about how they were fishing this and that this year and now they are nowhere to be found on the rosters. Is it such a big deal to ask why??? Unless they have something to hide I wouldnt think it would be?

Just trying to get some answers to all the rumors floating around but I guess this isn't the place to do it. No problem. I guess I will just use this site to purchase all my medical care products/insurance and such and not for anything fishing related.
