trying to get my boat a little closer to home. have it narrowed down to three options: copper kettle or Beaver Creek north, whiskey island marina, between edgewater and the river, or intercity yacht club at gordon park by e.72. advantages Beaver creek area is close to vermilion and lorain fishing areas that i know a little about. whiskey island is right on the lake, just inside the breakwall and has nice facilities and right by a very nice park, intercity has a secure site and folks like fish crazy, dixie chicken among others whose names i have heard go out of there. anyone have experience with any of these or thoughts about this process. at the first two i would keep my boat on a rack, intercity is in water only

Tom, Have you checked Beaver Creek South? Fat Cat docks there and BigKev also I think a couple of others from here. With you fishing as late as you do, I would imagine that you would rather keep your boat in the water. I don't think they would have someone there to lift it out when you get back.

Distance from your boat is inversely proportional the number of times used.
IMO.

i agree erie, also i like to go out 12 hours at a time. my wife would like to go out on a nice calm day, but maybe for 2 or 3 hours. closer to home we could take two cars and she wouldn't be stuck with a long drive.
bob, the way the marinas have explained racking to me is that if you want to go out early, give em a call and they will have it at the staging dock waiting when you get there. if you say out until the late night, leave it at the staging dock and they'll put it away first thing. so we will ses where i end up. when i find a warm place to work inside, will give you a hollar about the floor and getting rid of some of the junk and various wires that need to be removed. thanks guys

Tom,

Are you keeping a running total as to what this free boat has cost you? LOL.

A year ago, would you have spent that much on buying a boat?

probably not,but i often go out alone so keeping it in the water is not a problem. and as long as people keep getting married and dying i can afford it. trying to keep the costs reasonable. ask bob about the floor

As preacherman stated, you can leave after 8am from Beaver North as they do not come in to work before that. Or you can go there the day before and have them put the boat in the water and then put it in one of their 4 overnight slips that they keep available for their rack units. You can come in after they close in the evening and leave the boat moored at the loading area, or one of 2 other areas by the loading dock, and they will rack it as soon as they come to work the next day. I have left mine there after rack closing, with all the electronics in place, fishing gear onboard and the keys in the ignition and haven't had a problem. They have a full time night watchman there, and even though one of their bar/restaurant buildings is right next to the dock, they have no theft problem that I'm aware of.
