Just thought that I would show all of you my set up for changing and putting line on my line counter reels. Now that I know that the counters on the reels are not accurate unless they are full of line to a certain point. I wanted to check and just make sure how much power pro I actually had on my reels. So I had to come up with a way to strip line, be able to also save what I wanted to reuse and also be able to measure it at all times not just when my reel was full. The line counter that I use is made by Rapala and works quite well. I have also checked it out to 100' measured out area and it is right on the money. But just remember it is made to work in one direction. So remember to put it on your rod in the right direction and flip it around when going the other way. Also I have made line spool adapters out of 1/4" all thread rod some rubber tubing, 2 fender washers, 2- lock washers and 2- 1/4 nuts. Cut the rubber tubing a little wider than your spool so when you tighten the nuts the tubing bulges out and grabs the spool. Also I have let enough rod stick out on both sides as to be able to set it on my stand that I have made for different width spools and to be able to chuck it up in my drill. I found out that I didn't have the amount of power pro that I thought I did. So I have added what I needed right before the backing. As it works out it takes 600' of 20# silver thread backing and 450' of the power pro that I am using to fill my Okuma line counters. Now it will be much easier to check them out. Now on occasion I will put the Rapala counter and check my reels out this summer to make sure the line counter is right. Hope you find this post helpful, DE !!!

D.E.,I kinda do the same thing, when stripping the line off that I want to keep I hook my cordless drill up to the all thread and let it spool it off.It is time consuming to figure out just how much backing and main line to use but once you have it,it is a piece of cake for years to come.

Mark, that looks like a government job if I have ever seen one. I think that I will invest in two line counters because I get tired of turning the one around. Remember they only count right one way.

Come on D.E., whats our next project going to be? I think I might try and use the same 1" thick white tooling plastic and machine me out one hell of a fish cleaning table.

I'll tell you Mark my table is a plastic 55 gal drum flipped up side down with that white cutting board material bolted to the top. I also put some 4x4's under the drum to make it just the right height so as not to kill my back cleaning those perch. Along with a GFI outlet screwed to the barrel right under the cutting board and there you have it a pretty kick ass set up, fact is I have two of those. Also comes in handy for doing deer.

DE, How about a picture of your barrels. I think Viper may be interested in that. He cleans his fish in the driveway and has to bend over a small table. He doesn't have a computer so I keep him informed of a lot that goes on here. May have to pay his membership to the club for his Christmas present.

For those on a budget an ironing board makes a great cleaning table and the height can be adjusted so you don't have to bend over a low table

OK you twisted my arm, give me a little time and I will give you some pictures. I would like to at least take them in the day time. I like the sounds of that ironing board !!! Think my wife will miss hers or do you think it will start to smell after a while if I keep putting back in the house !!!!! I think I would be DEAD !!!

D.E. I think you would be a dead man for sure,I did look on e-bay but most tables that would be big enough/and I liked were around $300-$400 bucks and that is way to much,I want to make some thing that after we clean the fish I can just roll it out side and spray it down with a holes.

Nothing wrong with screwing a hunk of plywood to it to make it bigger either.
