My son and I went to the Rocky today for our first steelie venture. It was a bit on the chilly side this morning and the best thing was the sun was out and hardly any people. We decided to use our fly rods and just give it a shot. To make a long story short I had one on and broke my line where I had a split shot. To me that was satisfying for the first trip out. We did run into a guy fly fishing and he was nice enough to give us a few pointers and it was shorty after that that I had my hook up. Fact is the guy pointed the spot out to me and said that there should be one holding there and he was right. Felt good just to get out and make some cast and wet a line.
Tommy, I'm still working on that part. If I can get it where I want it or even close I'm happy for now.
Rocky, didn't get his name, nice guy said he was playing hooky. When we left I think he was driving a brown colored import SUV. Hope I see him again though !!!
ya im still working on that wrist action there. lefty kerh says to keep that wrist tight and its all forearm. you know i sat here and read the book and then when it came time for DE and myself to hit the river its like i had a brain fart couldnt remember anything. for every good cast i had it took me three crappy ones to get there it seemed like.
