Just picked up a 26' Baha Fisherman and was curious what everyones thoughts were on dockage. I know some people who dock over in the western part during the spring (Wild Wings) and then move to the "V" later in the year (August). I don't know how the fishing is in the Vermillion area in the spring? Makes me believe it may not be that good? I would rather drive my vehicle then my boat if I need to follow the fish. Also, would like everyones opinion on the best docking place for the price. I would not need electric or water. I would dry dock the boat in Vermillion over the winter months.

Wet docking - don't have a trailer. As far as when the bite is on - thats the info I'm looking for. Thanks. I just wondered why alot of people seem to dock Western area early and then Central later. It would be alot easier to leave it at one place. Whats the best place in Vermillion to dock? and why? |

| i dock out of lorain. just to let you know you might want a dock with electric. being that you will be in the water your bilge pumps will be working daily. it is a bit of a strain on your batteries. having electric at the dock allows you to put a charger on your batteries and not have to worry about a dead battery when you show up to fish on the weekend. i haven't found any "cheap" docking on lake erie. western basin starts in april and runs through june. fish move to deeper water there after. don't know about vermillion docking but am quite knowledgeable about lorain. send me a pm if you want to chat about docks and storage. |

IMO, Romps would be close to Number 1. It's a protected Harbor. (off the beaten path of the Main River, but still a short distance from the Lake) Romps waterways would not get the raging flow from a North Blow.
Congrats on the new boat |

http://www.keyharbourmarina.com/ check out these guys.great people very friendly and helpful. clean bathrooms and showers for those overnighters, a pool for the kids, docks have H2O and electric. which you use way more than you ever would have thought. we watch tv if there is something we can't miss on. pop some popcorn. heck last night we plugged in a heater and stayed toasty sleeping on the boat. i for one would never go any where else as long as i have a boat. my 2 cents. it was a sad day for us today. we pulled the chicKen oF the C out of the water and set her on shore at dock # 64. time to go shoot some ducks, pheasants and hopefully that 155 inch 10 point buck i've been seeing all summer. |

SEAPRO, I put my boat in around the end of March in the Western Basin. I dock on Catawba Island. This is a longer run to the reefs, but a lot closer to the Islands than the wild wings area. Since I mostly troll I'm usually fishing a lot more around the Islands than the reefs, especially by the first of May. Docking on Catawba is not cheap, but can save a lot in gas, when fishing the Islands. I move the boat around the end of May to Beaver Park. They have monthly rates that are as cheap as I've found. Fishing around the Islands in April and May can be outstanding, but most of the big fish move east by the first part of June. that's why I move the boat. Hope this helps |

| I dock at Romps and have no complaints. It might be a little expensive but it is protected and the service is great. Walleye are around from May till Nov. |

| I agree with Devildog on Romp's. I hsve docked at Romp's for years and have always found the owners and staff to try hard to please their customers and the facilities are first class. Romp's are constantly updating the marina and improving services. The fishing is good from Huron to Lorain to Canadian line. |

Alright, what's the deal, do you guys get a rebate for referring someone to Romps?
Let me know whose name to use and how much of that will come back to me and we'll talk.
Checked out their website and the place does look really nice. I'm going to make a personal visit but all indications are thats where I'll be docking. My wife doesn't like going out on the boat and we usually have the grandkid (3 year old) on weekends. Looks like they have enough stuff to keep them two happy, while I'm out. Maybe someone else with the same circumstances will take turns (my boat - your boat - my boat)? |

I'll be more than happy to trade trips. Sounds like some savings. I know it's not a Baha, but here's my Beaut!!

Keep in Touch!! |

| kingfish - someone else told me about beaver creek - I can't seem to find them on the web?? What are their prices? Are you saying they don't have bathrooms and showers? I routinely smell without even adding fishing to the equation. :-) LOL |

Beaver North and Beaver South Marina are both excellent facilities. Our boat is racked at North and I can't say enough about the guys that work there. Always friendly, helpful and willing to pitch in no matter what you're doing. South is where the mechanics and indoor boat sales occur. Real great people there also. North has the big pole barns full of racks and a fairly large floating dockage area. South has a very large dockage area. I talked to several boat owners and they all have the same thing to say. They have docked at other marinas around the area and won't give up their spots at Beaver...period. www.beaverpark.com is Beaver South, I haven't been able to find a page for Beaver North. The better-half and I decided, after experiencing this season at North, that we are converts to the rack storage concept and we're going to keep our boat there indefinitely. 2 minutes to the lake, 15 minutes to either Hot Waters or the Vermillion River area with the Ford Plant, Condo's, Hospital and most of the other 'bowl' sites in between...what a rush!!! |

Kingfish; I haven't experienced what you did. I had several repairs, mostly because of my own dumb a***d mistakes, and they were on time and fairly reasonably priced; when comparing them to the rest of the area. I haven't had reason to take a shower, but the porta-pits at North are always clean and supplied and they will even let females use the flush toilets in the little bar/restaurant/office building, even when it's closed, if you ask them. |

well maybe its me but i am on the south end twice i have had problems with them its a 60 mile ride up there and i find them very unreliable my floating dock sunk the first year when i put in ..had to move the problem with the trailer they were to have pulled out that was another trip wasted and the repair problem that they said they would do in a week lasted 3 weeks and they didnt fix it i pulled my boat worked on it at home was no big deal and then they had the b#### to send a 90 dollar bill for check out service .i am going to see how the north end is .but for 650.00 a year and have another boat 6 inches next to you trying to get in your dock is trouble when your by yourself also the water is very dirty and shallow were i am lots of debri floating around .i am moving to geneva next year same moneylittle farther drive. if you get a chance take a look at that marina ..when,i pull my boat out of geneva its clean ..beaver its looks like a snapping turtle ..i am sure lots of people love it. all i am saying is what i have experienced ...650.00 is alot of cash for a sinking dock and very tight quarters to get your boat in and out sorry but thats the way i feel about the place

kingfish;
I agree, $650.00 is a lot of money if the service that you received and the docking area are that bad. Years ago I spent some time at a marina on the Chagrin and it was all headaches and about a 50 mile drive, so I can understand your disappointment and frustration with South. Good luck with Geneva, it's a beautiful area, but way too far for me to drive every weekend.
