I just bought a used Stainless prop for my mercruiser sterndrive in great condition. Is there anything I need to do special when replacing the old prop to the used one I just bought ( I called mercruiser to make sure the new/used prop matched up, which it does. What is mean to rehub a prop and does that need done, or can I simply take the bolt off and bolt the new one back on.
Thanks
Dana

Dana the hub could be damaged but I would like to think people don't act like that knowingly. To rehub is to replace the rubber or polyurethane that the damper between the spline and the actual hub is made of.Make sure to use spline lubricant and the approiate thrust washer and maybe a new lock tab,the step on the prop housing and the case should be somewhere around 3/8-1/2 from each other if spacing is set up.What did you get a 17 or a 19???I run Michigan Vortex aluminum props hoping to make the blades sacrificial, they use a replacable hub that shears on impact but it has never worked as designed for us when we boated the Ohio river, five in the last season of that aggrevation. When we struck last season it sheared the input shaft of the lower case where alphas break on the o-ring groove, that prop had three seasons and only lost a little paint from shallow stuff prior to folding a blade flat on that strike. The wild part was that the skeg was untouched, talk about just inches,at least the case should be buildable.
Don't worry dear once we get past this rough water it will flatten out.
