Went to Michigan to the Manistee River area, fished the Bear Creek. We had the time of our life with the fly rods. We have already planed the trip for next year and have the cabin rented. Here are a few of the pictures from our trip. Big fish was a King Salmon they was 36" and weighed 17.5#, what a fish. Seven fish filled my big cooler!! It was getting kind of late when we got back from fishing and we decided to have our fish cleaned. Good thing, we learned a good lesson watching it done. It has always been a pain to get the skin off steelhead and now I know how it is done, they pull the skin off just like a catfish and boy was that slick.
What a trip Rod,looks like you guys did great and thanks for sharing.Hey that's your son in the pictures also?WOW I sure beat those fish put up a fight in the river. How long did it take to reel some of those big boys in?
Thanks Mark Butler - ( Let Christ be your light house )
BK, never got them on the lake up their. I did see your pics I think on the OGF where you went. It's nice to go with someone that knows the ropes. We brought home seven fish and had a bunch of hook ups!! Mark, some of those fish stayed in the area and some they had to chase down stream a ways. Sometimes you wondered where they got to for so long. A big net is the key and mine needed to be bigger. One more thing to add to our list for next year. We figured our trip was right around $200.00 for Sunday morning leaving at 5 am till Tuesday getting home at around 6 pm. Can't wait for next year!!
Smoked those Salmon today and boy did they come out good. A lot more mild than Steelhead!!! I think we will be working on bringing more fish home next year. Also working on tying up spawn sacs and freezing then like BK suggested to me before. Brought a water bottle full of eggs home!
Those King eggs work better for me in the fall DE. We really enjoyed our salmon better than the steelies. Not that the steelies were bad just liked the flavor of the smoked salmon better.
