My friend Crosseye's just got back from a charter captains meeting and the top discussion was next years Walleye limit!!! How do you like the sound of 4 Walleye for a limit!!! It could very well be what it will be!! Nothing carved in stone yet but from what I hear it can happen any time next year from the very start to any time they so desire through out the year. That will make it pretty bad for a charter. I would of thought that they would of started by going to five fish to start with.

So did they decrease the limit for the commercial fisheries,USA and Canada? What about closing the season during the spawn. I'm all for protecting our wild life and the sports we all enjoy but do it smart! |

I don't think they net walleye in the US do they? But you have a very good point. Have you noticed in the stores that the walleye usually say they are from Canada!! That is enough to keep me from buying them!

They don't net walleye in the US. In Canada they have a weight limit as a whole when they hit it they are done for the year. Answer me this, how do the perch net we see around here not catch or kill walleye? Think that is BS.

hey boys my informet has told me that there will be at least 1 walleye reduction and possible two.however to make up for it they are going to allow a three rod limit.I don't have a problem with that but really how many can you run before it cost you fish.just because you can put more rods out doesn't mean your going to get them any faster, and from a customer point of view i would be looking at how much it is going to cost me per fish not how fast i get them 90-115$ per man is 25-30$ per fish.

I think they should put a three year hold on commerical fishing to see what happens to the lake.if it doesn't work then resume but imagine if it did work and revitalized the lake.i would be willing to pay more for my fishing liesence and my charter liesence to make it work.

czar, all good points but like I was talking to my fishing buddie to night at work you can't really put a price on how much it takes per walleye we catch.Man for what my boat cost and what I have in it that money could buy my family and 10 other familys fish for life LOL. 3 pole limit will be bad any way IMO because just say a 4 fish limit for 2 guys and now you can use an extra 2 poles and on a decent day you might get done 1/3 faster so now you were on the road more than you was on the lake.Well not me LOL. |

I never understaned why thy just dont do that. You would think it would be more profitable and wouldent hurt the fish population in the lake? I know they do it with the trout, and I would think the perch would do just as well.

All the netters need right now are some boats and nets. The fish are FREE!!!!!!If they pond raised them it would cost them a lot of money to get started, why pay when it's free. They don't cares what it does to the lake, fish and local small businesses, they will ride the free ride until the ride is no longer there.

the estimated cost to buy out the exsisting commerical guys would 2.1 million.and belive it or not in these hard econmic times the state is hurting too.all my taxes are just not enough.that is why i would raise the fishing liscense cost 5 bucks to get those jacka--'s out.

They will never stop commercial fishing. Way too much $ in it, maybe not for the guys pulling in the nets but for the people who sell them to retailers. We have to remember this is all politics with that there is $ being thrown to certain people who have interests in the commercial fishing business. Its all about the money. The real problem is not the commercial guys here as much as the ones in Canada.I like what BigAl is saying- catch and release until the spawn is over. The weather conditions are hard enough on the hatch let alone people pulling prime breeding females out of the population.
