Well I don't normally fish for cats until the first or second week of may but I decided to spend a few hours at the vermilion river tonight just to see if they had started to come up the river. Night started slow with a small sheep-head the only fish in the first hour. Then I landed a 19 lbs carp and a 8.5 lbs sheep-head. About 10:30 PM caught the first cat of the night. He was about 2.5 lbs. Went on to catch a total of 9 cats, 4 sheep-head, and two carp. The second carp was about 15 lbs and one of the cats was a little over 10 lbs. All the cats came on shrimp.

a 72 pounder you say. lol I have had my best luck the first two weeks of may. caught a 17 lbs about three years ago at the spillway at the city docks and last year we caught 15 or more over 13 lbs there. Fish-n-friend thanks for the info I have never fished up there. But I have always heard good reports about it. |

Nice fish!!!!!
This one was caught abou this time last season.
Some of the biggest in erie are starting to hit the river now!

the catfish have been biting pretty good at the old bay bridge also.On the bay view side here are a couple pics of the bigger ones i caught.
