Posted - 04/09/2008 : 21:57:32 Stoshu and I spent 5 hours at the V today. Only one hook up nothing landed. Seen a few rolling. Lot of guys out with fly rods. One caught a smallie and about a 4 pound steelie. He had another steelie and smallie on but got off. Water is still a little stained. |

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 17:06:50 I would say depending on temps about another month. I do know however there will be some straglers in the river til June. Buddy of mine caught a couple last year in june, really skinny and didn't look very healthy but still steelies. I've been busy the last two weeks. Gonna try to get out on thurs and friday. Fly rod is also easier to present in a more stealthy manner. Later dudes.

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 16:37:39 If i could trade eyes for steelies i would any day, they are on fire today again with over 30 fish in a bit over an hour, but even a 14lb eye fights like a log! |

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 04:58:53 I would say that you can present the bait much faster and more on target. Just think every time you are done with a drift using a spinning outfit you reel in the line and make an other cast. With a fly rod you just whip the rod back and flip it back exactly where you want it. I would say it is at least 3-4 time quicker and more effective. Don't let fly rods intimidate you they are not that hard to use. If I can do it so can you!!! |

Posted - 04/09/2008 : 00:40:05 Wake-Doubleeagle,I'm no big steel man but I read all your post about them and was just wondering what the big differance in the spinning outfit verses the fly rod makes. |

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 19:11:50 BK, I use to have a hard time believing it when someone would say that they caught 20, 30 or more but as time went on and I seen it with my own eyes I'm a believer now. Where is your fly rod BK, now is the time. I heard a good report on the V today also with a fly rod. The guy said he never caught so many Steelhead in all his life. Sounds like the weather is going to pot again. Get em while you can guys. What do you think BK got about a month or so left?? I sent a first timer to the Rocky today and he did great for his first time out. Said he landed six and lost about that many, he was a happy camper!! |

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 16:09:04 DE, Never said you were BSing man! Just thought you might be able to help these fellas out. Like I said I'm not that great at catchin' em this time of year so you and Wake are the experts now. By the way, this is a family site so I editted you post for the profanity. Easy big guy! And you can present cyrstal meths and egg patterns with a float rod as well. Not as easily as a fly rod but it will work if you don't have a fly rod.

Posted - 04/08/2008 : 05:04:38 Let your spinning gear at home and get out the fly rods!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen many more fish caught with a fly rod this time of year. Was at the Grand on Sunday and seen very few spinning outfits used. BK< I was with Wake both days so you know there is no BULL POOP about what I tell you!!! Wake had 17 be for work on Monday and I know he had over 20 when I was with him. Egg patters and chrystal meth in light colors were the ticket. Also look in the fast water, that is where you will see them the best. You have to put it right in front of them and piss them off into hitting what you have for them. Prime time boys better get out there while you can be for it rains again. The V should fish today as from one of my other source's and the Rock is on fire!!! We fish a trib to the Grand on Sunday to get fish able water!! WINK, WINK, WINK !!! Now get out and do it !!!!!!!!!!!

Posted - 04/07/2008 : 23:28:52 DE, What were you using? Maybe it would help these fellas out if you told them. Sucker spawn? Jigs n maggots? Spawn? Flies? What kind of water did you fish? Fast? Slow? How about some pics man?!!! WINK, WINK
Steel7, I've fished once in a month and I do know the spawn bite is just about done, so I'm guessing that they were using some kind of fly pattern. If you know where to fish and what to use you can put up some huge numbers this time of year. I'm a much better cold water steelhead fisherman and will be the first to admit I'm not as good in the later spring. Don't be afraid to throw spinners also. The fish are going to get a little more active especially in the lower sections of the river as the ones that have spawned will be on their way out to the lake. |

Posted - 04/07/2008 : 16:03:51 River looks to be going to a stained color.
I saw several anglers giving it a try today. ALSO, I was up near the islands today and the lake is murky, saw several boats going out.
That's all I have to say, Tite lines, Dave |

Posted - 04/06/2008 : 19:54:50 Hey Steel, Not much has been going on around here. I have been checking the river, very slow due to the muddy water. I live very close to the river and haven't seen much angling activity. Even though the shop is closed, I still have the # up and running and answer when I am around. Most everyone has been wanting me to check the V water conditions. As of today she still didn't look that good. I saw one boat off Tiki beach yesterday headed east and one boat that launched out of the V today. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED AND FISHING FOR EYES AT? Take care, Dave |
