Posted - 10/03/2007 : 23:06:05 launched out of hot waters in Lorain, went about 4 miles out north.Caught only 7 perch.Decided to move to a different location,so I turned my key and nothing.Checked the fuses and battery terminals, everything looked normal, still nothing.Called a tow company to tow me back to the dock.Charged me 600 bucks for the tow.I had no clue being fairly new to boating that it would cost that much.Yikes.Do most of you guys have memberships to towing services? |

Posted - 10/07/2007 : 18:04:21 I also use my kicker motor for double duty. Before I bought my new motor I came in twice on it. The first two years on Lake Erie I didn't have a kicker so i did have insurance. I don't have insurance now and the money I have saved by not getting it would pay for a tow plus. |

Posted - 10/05/2007 : 22:46:18 Morpheus, I had the same problem with my 40hp outboard. In my case, the neutral switch is in the shifter mechanism. Can’t get to it. Don’t think of it as a neutral switch, but as a not-in-gear switch that connects to the starter. I wired another switch in parallel under the dash for just-in-case, but it turned out that the switch didn’t engage because I didn’t get it out of gear smoothly. Try jiggling the shifter out of gear cleanly. Worked for me.

Posted - 10/04/2007 : 20:59:06 Morpheus, just curious - did you just purchase that boat. The reason I ask is because I was just looking at one of those for sale in the Lexington area. Seems like a fairly unique boat, so was just wondering. |

They are also an agent for BoatUS and if one their plans don't work they can sign you up with them. Amber, very nice young lady. |

Posted - 10/04/2007 : 17:15:56 i have found that if you go with full coverage with proggressive they will give you unlimited tows within 75 nautical miles which covers a big area of the lake i pay 268.00 ayear for mine but like i said it is full coverage wreckage removal chemical spill 7500.00 total loss 1500.00 personal loss 2500.00 electronic loss and so on so i would say dont be cheap on the ins. because it pays off in the long run i had to be towed off the lake 4 times this year :-( but it is all good now so what was the issue with your boat
thanks carl |

Posted - 10/04/2007 : 13:29:50 A friend got stuck on the sandbar in the mouth of Sandusky Bay. 38' cabin cruiser. The towing company wanted $3000, the insurance company paid $2500. He drove his boat away. |

Posted - 10/04/2007 : 12:44:40 One more thing make sure you have a marine radio so you can get on #79 and see if any body on this forum are close buy and can help you out.I know if I was close to some one and they needed a tow in I would help if I could and then return to fishing. This forum is not only for helping us with fishing techniques but friends are being made and it sure is nice having some on the big pond when your in trouble. |
