First-time boat owner, first-time posting. After 31 years of drag racing I'm going boating and fishing! I have a boat at Valley Harbor and I'm ready to go fishing, but what's with the wind!!! I'm going to have many questions for you guys. I have a couple of buddies that fish, so I have had some help there. I have been watching this site and think it's really cool. I have a fabricating shop where we build race cars, aluminum stuff and stainless but I'm sure lost with this boat stuff. (I have had lessons with driving and saftey so dont worry!) It's definitely different than drag racing... my boat is only supposed to do 30 mph and not 200 mph! Hope to see you guys out there! Thanks, Dan

sea pro, when you look at the tithe in the ot there are places where it sounds like the 10% is put in a pot and you have a big party with the community. which sounds like a good idea to me. you were supposed to support the church (or temple in this case) out of the other 90%. as far as money and boats i've more than tithed there. my 'free' boat has cost about $1600 and still needs new carpet and part of the floor replaced, but i sure have enjoyed it and am looking forward to a full season next year, didn't get this one until sept. but am hoping to get out mon-wed. next week and thendecide whether to shut it down for the year or keep it on the trailer and try some of that night trolling. if not i'll turn back into a pier rat and go for the walleye and seagulls. boating probably isn't as exciting as drag racing, but it sure does a lot of good for your peace of mind and spirit.

Welcome, Dan. There's a lot of info available on this board. Any questions, just ask away. As far as the wind, we all wish it would clam down.

One way to learn a lot fast is to go back and review last years posts. I think they are around page 34 or 35. (Junkmonkey2 - you, too, Bud) Sometimes new things happen year to year, but we won't know that until we get out there and get it figured out. What worked last year is a good place to start.
Hey Dave - Wisconsin? What are you doing, Muskie fishing? Wish I was up there!

ErieBoy75, Dave went up there to a tackle show. To see what he can get for next year. They show all the new stuff and give the dealers a buy on the discountinued stuff.

Welcome Dan,

The big question will be can you turn your boat to the left?

All of us have forgotten more than is recorded on this forum. There's a whole lot to learn from reading.

Thanks for welcoming me in... it's been really great to hear back from all of you. I've really enjoyed the time on the boat with my dad and brothers... although my wife doesn't seem so happy about my purchase. But, she's gone a few times... and my daughter, son-in-law, my son, and my mom. Everyone seems to enjoy it.

Hi Double Eagle- I bought a 1996 231 WA Proline with a 350 Mercruiser, with 234 hours.

Hi Eriefeelin- yes, as a matter of fact, I've already started making rodholders, and a stainless rocket launcher bar.

SeaPro and preacherman- I've already had a talk with the pastor about missing a few Sunday mornings...

Hey Redneck- the only problem I have is that I keep going for the parachute and try to hit the brakes, but I bounce off the dock. Thankfully, Dave at Valley Marina gave me a double wide spot with a rubber tire in the front!

Welcome,
You made me LOL because I've been there - "marina gave me a double wide spot with a rubber tire in the front!"
Great docking advise as told to me: Never approach a dock faster than you can afford ! and.....watch out for those speed bumps that grow from 1' to 5'waves in a NY minute

Hi Don, we have something in common. We have a 1990 Proline 230 W/A with a 5.7 Chevy and a 1989 Proline 17' center console. Both are very nice fishing boats. Enjoy your new sport. Joel

Dan, sounds like you are on your way. We will have you being an expert by spring. Most of us run dipseys and it might be split between big boards and little boards, I prefer big boards. Most of us run spoons, cranks and crawler harnesses. There will be some tackle shows this winter that would be good for you to attend and we will try to let you know when. Just give us a shout for anything at all.

Welcome to the site Dan ! ! ! ! Sounds like you've pulled off a good hole-shot so far...

I can't offer any good advise, as I am "nautically challenged", but look foreward to hearing all of the good reports and things learned as you progress.....

Also, looking foreward to seeing possibly more posts regarding the racing. I am also a long time drag racing fanatic. Looking foreward to hearing about the cars, and if you are still racing, hearing about the races next year (heck, maybe even see you at the track...)

Do they make a Kielbasa colored Reef Runner??? Husky Jerk????

Hey Dan, Would like to see pictures of what you came up with for rod holders. I am wanting to put some new ones on in the spring, looking at a five place deal per side.
