Went out with Preacherman yesterday. Met at Dave's about 11AM. On the way out the boat started to bog down. The trolling plate had dropped and was bent in an L shape. Had to take it off. Ran on out to the 37/28 and trolled NE. Set 1 line and went to set second line, 3 oz BB with a harness and green nightcrawler back 90 feet. Didn't even get it in the holder when a fish hit it. Nice eye. Finnaly got all lines set. Got our limit, threw back 3 small eye and lost one at the boat. Most fish came on Big Dipsys w/rings set at 3, 100 to 125 back. Red and white big spoons. Also took 3 off of Deep RR Pearl Ghost flat lined with a 1 oz inline weight, back 180 to 210. Also lost a monster eye just beyound the net when the 25LB test leader broke. Had a great time. Thanks Tom.

Dave, We were running 2 to 2.2 GPS speed. Just couldn't get it under 2 without the trolling plate.
Mark, I'm retired so can fish any day. And Tom says Monday is his only day off. Being a preacher he can't fish weekends. But if it will help I'll feel sorry for you having to work. |

Nice job ! Over the wknd we also lost a big fish due to a 20lb Vanish leader breaking. I now check my leaders for any nicks before setting out "every" time. I've heard some are using braided lines for their leaders. Anyone else?

Pastor,,,,overdue! Nice job guys. Very kind of you to go out of your BOB way to help and fish with Preacherman. OYeah, I haven't heard of fellas using braid for a leader. Was the 20# that you used leader material? Was it regular spooled line. I have heard Vanish has broke on many guys. Wake-N-Walleye uses Vanish Transition. We sell a lot of and I prefer to use Seagar leader material. Yet this will not cure knicks in the leader. |

| Dave, As you know I love to fish and to help other fisher persons with what knowledge I have. I hope he learned something from me. He knows how to catch fish, and get the programs going. So I didn't do anything there. I really enjoyed it and he's a real nice guy. I hope he invites me to fish with him again. Just this old warhorse fishing with a preacher. Really tough to watch my language with the trolling plate mess-up and loosing that big fish. ha ha. If his arms or the net were another 6 inches longer we wouldn't have lost the fish. I don't know what leader material he was using other than it was 25Lb test. It broke about an inch and half from the snap on the main line end. So it wasn't the knot. I'm using 15Lb test Vanish leader material. Not the big reels. Or 20Lb Stren Flourocarbon. I used to just snap my cranks to the braided line but now put a 6ft floro leader between my braid and the crank. At times I think it helps. |

Hey Dave, i was using the 25 lb test leader florocarbon that you set me up with. i guess i'm just going to have to deal with a more reputable dealer if i expect quality material . and bob, i deal with murderers (i have a young man from my first congregation on ohio death row for murdering officer gross on a traffic stop down in ashland county 10-12 years ago), i work with folks dealing with drug and alcohol issues, a variety of porn related issues including a couple of folks in prison, various kinds of abuse physical, mental sexual, i am even counseling with a stripper who is trying to get out of the life. i have told her i would come down and visit her at work and that kind of embarassed her, but i think it made her realize that she is really stuck between two very different lives. and this is just on my church council(jk). i read the new testament and see that the folks who everyone else wanted to judge are the ones that jesus wanted to hang out with and they wanted to hang out with him. i have no desire to judge anyone. i'll leave that up for God. my job is to see em through the eyes of jesus and let them know there is forgiveness and redemption and a freeing way to live. not trying to preach a sermon, but people have these strange ideas about pastors. i can tell you that after 24+ years i don't think there is anything that could shock me. that includes any language from an old war horse. in fact the person who really pointed me to a different way was an episcopal priest name bob burton. he had a church on w.26 near detroit ave. he had been in the navy during ww 11 and later was a teacher and football coach before becoming a pastor. he wore grey workpants, a white v neck t-shirt with a pack of luckies rolled up in the sleeve. and had tattoos of naked women, knives and i can't remember what else all over his body. he was about 5'8' probably 250lb of solid muscle wore a crew cut when most of us were wearing our hair longer. he loved us unconditionally, but took no crap. he opened my eyes to what pastors and faith were all about. anyway, none of that had anything to do with fishing. did have a nice day with bob on the water. it was nice being out there on a flat lake so i could try a variety of programs. and so i could say yeah, we picked up 2 tickets out around the 38/28 line. i'm hoping the weather will cooporate so i can get in my two weeks remaining vacation before norm makes me pull the boat. |

Ohyeah,I have been using the Berkly vanish for every thing for 3 years now,on all my spinning out fits, all my leaders are made out of the stuff to.Really know problems to speak of but no leader holds up to nicks or old age.I kinda got in a habit of making new leaders no matter what after 2-3 outings.Braided line leaders will catch fish but you will lose a lot of them for pour hook sets. Went out with Mark S. trolling one day and we for got our momo leaders so we made up some from the braided line on our poles,we did land fish BUT every fish once in the boat spit the hooks right out-they was not even hooked,we caught around 20 eyes that day but lost at the boat around 10 so that was the best lesson about leaders I have seen.No matter what you use once in awhile that darn leader is going to brake from nicks-age-bad spot in the line-bad knot. |

| Tom one thing that my pastor taught me and he learned from me also was that to many people put pastors on some kind of pestle of sorts. We all, just like my pastor are men with the same kind of thoughts and feelings but it is how you act on those thoughts and feelings or do with them.I have always just acted the same way around my pastor, out side those four walls we call a church he becomes a equal man to me,telling jokes kicking our feet up etc and yes my tongue slips way to much but my pastor is not only my pastor but a friend that is a man like I am-I treat him as a messenger not a savior and in return he feels a whole lot more at ease with me for I don't judge him or aspect him to be perfect either. There was only one perfect person that walked this earth and he to understood for if he didn't he would of never came.He like you deals with a lot of crap threw the week so when we get together we have good clean fun with out judging each other. |

Tom, Didn't mean anything by it. Just my other friends and my wife can't believe it. My wife said it will be a one time trip. None of them figured that you could put up with me all day. As I said, I had a great time and would like to do it again. After all they hope that some of your niceness and understanding will wear off on me. |

You "bleeping bleeps" !!!
Now thats funny !
Interesting True Story - Before my father passed away he had a massive stroke. The stroke impaired his speech terribly. He basically had tourettes. All he could say was cuss words and only one, that got continiously repeated and was always very foul. I dreaded visiting him and actually put it off for awhile, wondering what use it would be and not being able to get my head around how we would ever be able to communicate. It was strange but we could still talk because the way he presented the words, with the tone and the infliction used, it was possible to still understand him.
Anyways, one day all he could say was "Jesus Christ" which was a pleasant and welcomed cuss word over the other ones he had been using. I jokingly asked him if he had turned "religious" since his stroke, to which he responded with alot of infliction "Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ!" The tone of voice he used, let me know that he was cussing me out. The only time he actually had while he was afflicted with this speech impairment.
My father was not a religious man and frequently used cuss words, but he never cussed intentionally while he had this impairment, except for that day. His ability to communicate had been crippled to the use of only words that most of us abhor and yet when you LISTENED, you could hear and understand what it was that he was really saying.
Words are just that - WORDS, its whats behind them that matters. I thought some of you might find this as interesting as I always have. I would certainly put up with my fathers WORDS to have him back in my life again.

Amen Preacherman.... If more people in the world felt this way, the world would be a much better place to live in.

just for a heads up on the leader materials ... i was a berkley boy for a long time ..but after a sereies of mis-happs at the boat ... i changed to siglon flourocarbon #20 test and had no problems or breaks at the boat .. when i do not have the pleasure of fishing with someone .. i dont use a net.. i just open my transom door, open a fish box in the floor and away they go with a well timed haust and in the box they go,, that is what have sold me right there .. for the real hogs the technique is modified ,,and we go to a swim platform smack down session ... very effective and comical to watch i,m sure .. |
