launched out of hot waters in Lorain, went about 4 miles out north.Caught only 7 perch.Decided to move to a different location,so I turned my key and nothing.Checked the fuses and battery terminals, everything looked normal, still nothing.Called a tow company to tow me back to the dock.Charged me 600 bucks for the tow.I had no clue being fairly new to boating that it would cost that much.Yikes.Do most of you guys have memberships to towing services?

I have progressive boat Ins,I have a 1996 16' bass tracker with a 40 HP out board. It basically covers-boat replacement,$6,000 in equipment for any reason I lose the boat or the stuff on or it and it also covers 3 free tows a year.It runs me just at $120 a year threw my local Grange Ins company. They gave me a Ins card that has a phone# on it and if I ever need toed you call this number and the closest tow boat will come to your aid.I hope!!!

I have boat U S plus I have towing on my boat insurance. It isn't a good idea to be on the lake without tow insurance. Most boaters will not tow you in any more. $600.00 is a average tow if you are close to shore.

Also Boat US here $139 anywhere on Lake Erie. Lake Erie Towing has different packages but most did not go much past Vermillion. Also got Trailer Insurance for an extra $10, if you get a flat, run out of gas etc. It was the last link in having confidence on the Lake, got GPS unit too. Still want to get a ship to shore radio. I heard they charge $250 per hour, beginning when they leave their dock, tow you to where you want to go, and then return to their dock. Ouch.

i also have boat us. you can choose from unlimited tow to paying a small deductable per tow. i think that there are four or five options to pick from. six hundred is one of the less expensive tows without insurance.

Can u guys pass along the contact info for progressive as well as the Boat US.... I've never thought about that, but it's definately worth thinking about. I never would have imagined it would cost $600 for a tow. I know my boat is on my homeowners policy with Liberty Mutual but I don't think they cover stuff like this.....

Have you figured out what is/was wrong with the boat?

Ignition switch? Neutral switch?

That's one of the reasons why I have a kicker motor. 6MPH top end speed, but I could get back.

One more thing make sure you have a marine radio so you can get on #79 and see if any body on this forum are close buy and can help you out.I know if I was close to some one and they needed a tow in I would help if I could and then return to fishing. This forum is not only for helping us with fishing techniques but friends are being made and it sure is nice having some on the big pond when your in trouble.

A friend got stuck on the sandbar in the mouth of Sandusky Bay.
38' cabin cruiser. The towing company wanted $3000, the insurance company paid $2500. He drove his boat away.

i have found that if you go with full coverage with proggressive they will give you unlimited tows within 75 nautical miles which covers a big area of the lake i pay 268.00 ayear for mine but like i said it is full coverage wreckage removal chemical spill 7500.00 total loss 1500.00 personal loss 2500.00 electronic loss and so on so i would say dont be cheap on the ins. because it pays off in the long run i had to be towed off the lake 4 times this year :-( but it is all good now so what was the issue with your boat

thanks carl

Morpheus, theangling1, you can go to lakeerietowing.com, they review some of their plans there, all the phone numbers and contact info is there also. They are also an agent for BoatUS and if one their plans don't work they can sign you up with them. Amber, very nice young lady.
